Exercise 1: Dialogue

Instruction: 1. Read the dialogue in pairs. 2. Memorize the phrases by covering the translation. 3. Cover one speaker’s lines, give alternative answers with your teacher, and write them down.

Dos amigas están en un centro comercial evaluando qué ropa comprar y hablando sobre sus gustos, estilo personal y decisiones de compra.

Two friends are in a shopping centre evaluating what clothes to buy and talking about their tastes, personal style, and purchasing decisions.
1. Mónica: Creo que necesito renovar un poco mi armario con ropa más elegante. (I think I need to refresh my wardrobe a bit with more elegant clothes.)
2. Luna: Entonces, esta blusa de seda puede gustarte. (So, this silk blouse might please you.)
3. Mónica: Sí, me gusta el color. ¿Crees que combina con una cazadora negra? (Yes, I like the color. Do you think it goes well with a black jacket?)
4. Luna: Quizá sí. Pruébatela y vemos cómo te queda. (Maybe yes. Try it on and we'll see how it fits you.)
5. Mónica: Voy al probador. Mientras, ¿puedes mirar si hay más tallas? (I'm going to the fitting room. Meanwhile, can you check if there are more sizes?)
6. Luna: Claro. También he visto unos calcetines de algodón muy coloridos. (Sure. I also saw some very colorful cotton socks.)
7. Mónica: ¿Qué te parece este conjunto? Tiene un estilo un poco clásico. (What do you think about this outfit? It has a somewhat classic style.)
8. Luna: Depende. Ese estilo puede estar de moda si lo combinas bien. (It depends. That style can be fashionable if you combine it well.)
9. Mónica: Busco algo cómodo, pero que también me haga sentir con estilo. (I'm looking for something comfortable, but that also makes me feel stylish.)
10. Luna: Hay un espejo grande fuera del probador, puedes verte mejor allí. (There is a large mirror outside the fitting room, you can see yourself better there.)
11. Mónica: ¿Y tú qué vas a comprar hoy? (And what are you going to buy today?)
12. Luna: Necesito una bufanda nueva y quizá algo más para el invierno. (I need a new scarf and maybe something else for the winter.)
13. Mónica: Buena idea. Yo también quiero algo práctico, no solo bonito. (Good idea. I also want something practical, not just pretty.)
14. Luna: Sí, al final lo importante es elegir ropa con la que te sientas bien y cómoda. (Yes, in the end what matters is choosing clothes you feel good and comfortable with.)
