Exercise 2: Dialogue

Two colleagues discuss how Reinout should best care for his houseplant.
1. Reinout: Ik heb een plant gekregen voor mijn bureau, maar ik weet niet hoe ik hem moet verzorgen. (I got a plant for my desk, but I don't know how to take care of it.)
2. Merel: Wat voor plant is het? Een cactus of een normale kamerplant? (What kind of plant is it? A cactus or a regular houseplant?)
3. Reinout: Het is een gewone kamerplant, denk ik. Hoeveel water moet ik geven? (I think it’s a regular houseplant. How often should I water it?)
4. Merel: Je moet de plant ongeveer één keer per week water geven. (You should water the plant about once a week.)
5. Reinout: Oké, moet de plant in de zon staan? (Okay, should the plant be in the sun?)
6. Merel: Zet de plant op een lichte plek, maar niet in de volle zon. (Place the plant in a bright spot, but not in direct sunlight.)
7. Reinout: Wauw, jij weet veel over planten! Mag ik hem op jouw bureau zetten? Dan heb ik meer ruimte. (Wow, you know a lot about plants! Can I put it on your desk? That way I’ll have more space.)
8. Merel: Haha, nee, dat kan niet! Jij moet voor je eigen plant zorgen. (Haha, no, that’s not possible! You have to take care of your own plant.)
9. Reinout: Oké, je hebt gelijk. Moet ik de plant ook verpotten? Wanneer dan? (Okay, you're right. Do I also need to repot the plant? When should I do that?)
10. Merel: Ja, verpot de plant ongeveer één keer per jaar, als de wortels groter zijn dan de pot. (Yes, repot the plant about once a year, when the roots outgrow the pot.)
