Vandaag vertel ik over de meest voorkomende ziektes bij kinderen. (Today I talk about the most common illnesses in children.)
Ik leg uit wat de symptomen zijn en wat je kunt doen zodat je kind zich beter voelt. (I explain the symptoms and what you can do to help your child feel better.)
Bij een verkoudheid heeft een kind vaak een loopneus, het hoest en soms heeft het koorts. (With a cold, a child often has a runny nose, coughs, and sometimes has a fever.)
Zorg ervoor dat je kind veel rust krijgt en genoeg water of thee drinkt. (Make sure your child gets plenty of rest and drinks enough water or tea.)
Bij een verstopte neus kan het kind moeilijk ademen door de neus. (With a blocked nose the child may have difficulty breathing through their nose.)
Daarna kijk ik naar oorontsteking, die komt vaak voor bij jongere kinderen. (Next I discuss ear infections, which are common in younger children.)
Een kind met oorontsteking trekt aan zijn oor, huilt veel en slaapt slecht. (A child with an ear infection pulls at their ear, cries a lot, and sleeps poorly.)
Ga met het kind naar de huisarts of kinderarts, soms is er antibiotica nodig. (Take the child to the GP or paediatrician; sometimes antibiotics are needed.)
Bij buikgriep moet het kind overgeven of heeft het diarree en buikkrampen, geef dan kleine slokjes water en geen vast eten. (With stomach flu the child may vomit or have diarrhoea and stomach cramps; give small sips of water and avoid solid food.)
Een oogontsteking is besmettelijk, de ogen zijn rood en jeukerig, laat je kind vaak de handen wassen. (An eye infection is contagious: the eyes are red and itchy, so have your child wash their hands frequently.)

2. Baas: Hallo Jan. Waarom bel je mij? Je moet al op je werk zijn. (Hello Jan. Why are you calling? You should already be at work.)
3. Medewerker: Ik voel me niet goed. Ik hoest veel en ik heb een beetje koorts. (I don't feel well. I'm coughing a lot and I have a slight fever.)
4. Baas: Heb je misschien griep? Heb je al een doktersverklaring? (Could it be the flu? Do you already have a doctor's note?)
5. Medewerker: Ik kan niet naar de dokter gaan. Ik voel me slecht en ik ben erg misselijk. (I can't go to the doctor. I feel awful and I'm very nauseous.)
6. Baas: Je hebt echt een doktersverklaring nodig. En is het niet de Elfstedentocht volgende week? (You really need a doctor's note. And isn't the Elfstedentocht next week?)
7. Medewerker: Eh… ja, dat klopt. (Uh… yes, that's right.)
8. Baas: Sta jij niet ingeschreven voor de tocht? Is er vandaag ook training? (Aren't you registered for the tour? Is there training today too?)
9. Medewerker: Ja, klopt. Weet je wat… ik voel me eigenlijk al een beetje beter. (Yes, that's correct. You know… I actually feel a little better already.)
