Je kunt de tafel formeel of casual dekken. (You can set the table formally or casually.)
Ik kies voor een manier die precies daartussenin zit. (I choose a way that sits exactly in between.)
Je legt het bestek van buiten naar binnen. (You place the cutlery from the outside in.)
Het bestek voor het eerste gerecht ligt dus aan de buitenkant. (So the cutlery for the first course is on the outside.)
Het bord voor het dessert staat bovenaan. (The plate for dessert is placed at the top.)
Zet verschillende borden op elkaar. (Stack different plates on top of each other.)

Lieke gets a promotion and celebrates it with a dinner
1. Klaas: Ik ben zo blij met mijn promotie en dat we het samen kunnen vieren met een etentje. (I am so happy with my promotion and that we can celebrate it together with a dinner.)
2. Lieke: Ik ben heel blij voor je en enorm trots! (I am very happy for you and enormously proud!)
3. Klaas: Dank je, schat, dat is lief. Laten we alvast de tafel dekken. (Thank you, darling, that's sweet. Let's set the table already.)
4. Lieke: Prima. Ik leg alvast de zilveren vorken, messen en lepels neer. (Fine. I'll put out the silver forks, knives and spoons already.)
5. Klaas: Perfect, het mooie bestek. Leg ook het steakmes op tafel. (Perfect, the nice cutlery. Also put the steak knife on the table.)
6. Lieke: Doe ik. Zet jij de glazen en borden op tafel? (I will. Will you put the glasses and plates on the table?)
