In Nederland groet ik mensen met goedemorgen, goedemiddag of goedenavond. (In the Netherlands I greet people with "good morning", "good afternoon" or "good evening".)
Als het al avond is, zeg ik vaak goeieavond of fijne avond. (If it's already evening, I often say "evening" or "have a nice evening".)
Soms geef ik iemand een hand als ik binnenkom. (Sometimes I shake someone's hand when I arrive.)
Met sommige mensen zeg ik: lieve schat. (With some people I say, "dear" or "darling.")
Met andere mensen zeg ik gewoon: hoi, of: hoi, hoe gaat het meneer? (With others I just say "hi", or "hi, how are you, sir?")
Als het vroeg is, loop ik meestal gewoon naar binnen en zeg ik niets. (If it's early, I usually just walk in and say nothing.)
Dan ben ik nog niet echt aanspreekbaar. (Then I'm not really ready to be spoken to yet.)
In de les zeg ik meestal hai of hoi tegen de leraar. (In class I usually say "hai" or "hi" to the teacher.)
Soms zeg ik niks, ik loop de les in en ga zitten. (Sometimes I say nothing: I walk into class and sit down.)
Als ik een goede band met de leraar heb, zeg ik goedemiddag en maak ik een klein praatje. (If I have a good relationship with the teacher, I say "good afternoon" and make a little small talk.)
