Ogni anno, dal 1951, a febbraio, si svolge il festival più importante d'Italia: il Festival di Sanremo. È uno degli eventi più seguiti: nel 2025, 13 milioni di persone lo hanno seguito!
Every year, since 1951, in February, the most important festival in Italy takes place: the Festival of Sanremo. It is one of the most followed events: in 2025, 13 million people watched it!

Il Festival di Sanremo è il festival della canzone italiana e si svolge ogni anno a Sanremo dal millenovecentocinquantuno. (The Sanremo Festival is Italy’s song festival and has taken place every year in Sanremo since 1951.)
La prima edizione fu nel Salone delle feste del casinò, con i cantanti che si esibivano tra i tavoli. (The first edition was held in the casino’s ballroom, with the singers performing between the tables.)
Quelle prime serate furono accolte in modo freddo dalla stampa e dai critici. (Those first evenings were met with a lukewarm response from the press and critics.)
A vincere la prima edizione fu Nilla Pizzi con "Grazie dei fiori", che partecipò anche altre volte. (The winner of the first edition was Nilla Pizzi with “Thank You for the Flowers,” who also took part several other times.)
Dal millenovecentosettantasette il festival si svolge al Teatro Ariston, che è diventato la sede ufficiale. (Since 1977, the festival has been held at the Ariston Theatre, which has become its official venue.)
I brani in gara vengono scelti da una commissione nei mesi precedenti. (The competing songs are chosen by a committee in the preceding months.)
Le canzoni devono essere totalmente inedite, scritte da autori italiani e in lingua italiana, pena la squalifica. (The songs must be completely new, written by Italian songwriters and in Italian, otherwise they are disqualified.)
Le canzoni vengono votate da giurie diverse, come la giuria demoscopica, e dal pubblico con il televoto. (The songs are voted on by different juries, such as the demoscopic jury, and by the public through televoting.)
Alla fine vengono premiati i tre brani più votati nella sezione Big. (In the end, the three most-voted songs in the Big section receive awards.)
Ci sono anche le nuove proposte: artisti giovani che si esibiscono per la prima volta sul palco del festival. (There are also the Newcomers: young artists who perform for the first time on the festival stage.)
