Nella Commedia, Dante mescola temi, personaggi e linguaggi diversi. (In the Comedy, Dante blends different themes, characters, and registers of language.)
È un poema allegorico: gli eventi hanno un significato simbolico più profondo. (It is an allegorical poem: events carry a deeper symbolic meaning.)

Il viaggio dura una settimana, dall'otto al quattordici aprile del mille trecento. (The journey lasts one week, from April 8 to April 14, 1300.)
Lo scopo del viaggio è liberarsi dai peccati e arrivare alla salvezza. (The purpose of the journey is to free oneself from sin and attain salvation.)
Le guide di Dante sono Virgilio per inferno e purgatorio, e poi Beatrice e san Bernardo per il paradiso. (Dante's guides are Virgil for Hell and Purgatory, and Beatrice and Saint Bernard for Paradise.)
