La Divina Commedia

La Divina Commedia è il primo libro scritto in italiano. È diviso in tre parti principali ,chiamate cantiche: l'Inferno, il Purgatorio e il Paradiso.
The Divine Comedy is the first book written in Italian. It is divided into three main parts, called canticas: Inferno, Purgatorio, and Paradiso.

La Commedia di Dante in origine si chiamava solo "commedia". (Dante’s Commedia was originally called simply “Comedy.”)
L'aggettivo "divina" fu aggiunto da Boccaccio nel mille trecento settantatré come segno di ammirazione. (The adjective “Divine” was added by Boccaccio in 1373 as a sign of admiration.)
È un poema drammatico che si chiama commedia perché inizia male, all'inferno, e finisce bene, in paradiso. (It is a dramatic poem called a comedy because it begins badly, in Hell, and ends well, in Paradise.)
Inoltre, secondo gli antichi canoni, esistevano tre stili: tragico, umile e comico. (Moreover, according to ancient canons, there were three styles: tragic, humble, and comic.)
Nella Commedia Dante mescola temi, personaggi e linguaggi diversi. (In the Comedy, Dante blends different themes, characters, and kinds of language.)
È un poema allegorico: gli eventi hanno un significato simbolico più profondo. (It is an allegorical poem: the events have a deeper symbolic meaning.)
Dante, autore e protagonista, fa un viaggio nei tre regni dell'oltretomba. (Dante, both author and protagonist, travels through the three realms of the afterlife.)
I regni sono inferno, purgatorio e paradiso. (The realms are Hell, Purgatory, and Paradise.)
Il viaggio dura una settimana, dall'otto al quattordici aprile del mille trecento. (The journey lasts a week, from the 8th to the 14th of April 1300.)
Lo scopo del viaggio è liberarsi dai peccati e arrivare alla salvezza. (The purpose of the journey is to free himself from sin and attain salvation.)
