Stell dir vor, du sitzt in einem Meeting und dein Chef sagt: "Die paar Folien haben Sie jetzt die ganze Woche gebraucht." (Imagine you’re sitting in a meeting and your boss says: "Those few slides took you the whole week.")
Statt zu schweigen oder dich zu entschuldigen, solltest du schlagfertig antworten. (Instead of staying silent or apologizing, you should respond wittily.)
Du könntest sagen: "Natürlich habe ich mir Zeit genommen, schließlich legen Sie immer großen Wert auf Genauigkeit." (You could say: "Of course I took my time—after all, you always place great value on accuracy.")
Schlagfertigkeit hat drei wesentliche Merkmale: (Quick wit has three essential characteristics:)
Erstens: Mut - du musst dir zutrauen, frech zu sein. (First: courage—you have to trust yourself to be cheeky.)
Zweitens: Argumentationsfähigkeit - du solltest auf Angriffe vorbereitet sein und deine Meinung vertreten können. (Second: ability to argue—you should be prepared for attacks and be able to stand up for your opinion.)
Drittens: Humor - ein bisschen Witz und Ironie können helfen, jedes Wortgefecht zu entschärfen. (Third: humor—a bit of wit and irony can help defuse any war of words.)
Ein bekanntes Beispiel ist Winston Churchill, der mit Humor und Argumenten perfekt reagierte, als eine Dame ihm sagte, sie würde ihm Gift in den Kaffee tun, worauf er antwortete: "Wenn ich ihr Mann wäre, würde ich ihn trinken." (A well-known example is Winston Churchill, who reacted perfectly with humor and arguments when a lady told him she would put poison in his coffee, to which he replied: "If I were your husband, I would drink it.")
