(Culture: Premiere at the Municipal Theatre – Short Review)
Organisatorisch lief fast alles reibungslos. For the culture section of our city newspaper, I attended the premiere of "Kabale und Liebe" at the municipal theatre on Saturday. The production was modern but easy to follow: there were only a few pieces of furniture on stage, while live music accompanied the action. A pianist and a violinist underscored important scenes; it worked surprisingly well. The curtain rose promptly at 7:30 p.m., and the audience seemed attentive from the very beginning.
Organizationally, almost everything ran smoothly. Many people had to queue briefly at the entrance because tickets were still being checked. Inside the auditorium the signage was clear: row and seat were found quickly, and there was plenty of staff at the counters during the interval. At the end many people applauded for several minutes, and it was clear the evening was a success. If you don’t know the play yet, buy a programme booklet – it briefly explains the plot and the idea the director is presenting with this version.
