When to use Futur I (werden + infinitive)

• Use it to talk about the future, especially for plans, decisions, or predictions.
• In everyday German, the present tense + time word is also common: Morgen schicke ich die Einladung.
• Futur I is useful when you want to sound clear / formal / certain: Ich werde die Einladung morgen verschicken.

Core structure: the “two-verb” idea

Futur I has two verbs:

• werden = the “future helper” (conjugated in position 2)
• main verb = stays in the infinitive at the end

Key point: irregular verbs don’t change (they stay infinitive)

• Only werden is conjugated: ich werde, du wirst, er/sie/es wird, wir werden, ihr werdet, sie/Sie werden.
• The main verb stays as you find it in the dictionary (infinitive):

• Wir werden das Fest beginnen. (not: beginnt, not: begonnen)
• Sie wird später kommen. (not: kommt)

Where does “nicht” go in Futur I?

• In Futur I, the infinitive is at the end. So nicht usually goes right before the infinitive.
• That keeps the “verb bracket” clean and easy to read.

• Wir werden das Familienessen nicht im Restaurant feiern, sondern zu Hause.
• Ich werde den Termin nicht vergessen.

• Mistake 1: using a conjugated verb after werden
