Houd de brief kort en duidelijk, ongeveer één A4. (Keep the letter short and clear — about one A4 page.)
Vertel in het begin wie je bent en wat je zoekt. (Begin by stating who you are and what you are looking for.)
Leg daarna uit waarom deze baan jou aanspreekt. (Then explain why this position appeals to you.)
Geef voorbeelden van je opleiding of werkervaring. (Give examples from your education or work experience.)
Zeg waarom jij de juiste persoon bent voor deze baan. (Explain why you are the right person for this position.)
Sluit de brief af met een dankje en een vriendelijke groet. (Close the letter with a thank you and a polite sign-off.)

Exercise 2: Dialogue

Instruction: Read the dialogue and answer the questions.

Gijs vraagt een vriendin Famke, HR-manager, om advies over zijn CV en motivatiebrief.

Gijs asks a friend, Famke, HR manager, for advice on his CV and cover letter.
1. Gijs: Hoi Famke, kun je even naar mijn motivatiebrief kijken? (Hi Famke, can you take a look at my motivation letter?)
2. Famke: Natuurlijk, Gijs. Laat maar zien, ik help je graag. (Of course, Gijs. Show me, I'm happy to help you.)
3. Gijs: Ik wil zeker weten dat mijn motivatiebrief past bij de jobomschrijving. (I want to be sure that my motivation letter matches the job description.)
4. Famke: De brief is duidelijk, maar vertel ook waarom de werkgever voor jou moet kiezen. (The letter is clear, but also explain why the employer should choose you.)
5. Gijs: Oké. Moet ik ook iets zeggen over mijn werkervaring en mijn certificaten? (Okay. Should I also say something about my work experience and my certificates?)
6. Famke: Ja, zeker. Dat geeft de recruiter een beter beeld van je profiel. (Yes, definitely. That gives the recruiter a better picture of your profile.)
7. Gijs: Tot nu toe schrijf ik vooral waarom ik de baan wil. (So far I mainly write why I want the job.)
8. Famke: Dat is ook belangrijk en vergeet niet je cv en motivatiebrief als pdf te sturen. (That is also important, and don't forget to send your CV and motivation letter as a pdf.)
