Voor ons huis hebben we een timmerman nodig, niet een boekhouder. (For our house we need a carpenter, not an accountant.)
Soms is het lastig om een installateur te vinden. (Sometimes it is hard to find an installer.)
En zonder buschauffeurs kunnen we niet goed reizen. (And without bus drivers we can’t travel easily.)
Migratie helpt met extra vakmensen, maar het is vaak niet genoeg. (Migration provides extra skilled workers, but it is often not enough.)
We moeten meer respect krijgen voor vakmensen, vooral als we onze deur willen laten repareren. (We should show more respect for tradespeople, especially when we want to have our door repaired.)

Neighbourly chat about the shortage of skilled workers
1. Geert: Mijn kraan lekt weer, maar ik kan geen loodgieter vinden. (My tap is leaking again, but I can't find a plumber.)
2. Mieke: Ja, dat hoor ik vaak, er is een groot tekort aan vakmensen. (Yes, I hear that often, there is a big shortage of skilled workers.)
3. Geert: Dat klopt, zelfs de elektricien had geen tijd voor kleine klusjes. (That's true, even the electrician didn't have time for small jobs.)
4. Mieke: En de timmerman kwam bij mij pas na drie weken! (And the carpenter only came to me after three weeks!)
5. Geert: Dat is lang, vroeger deden mensen zulke klussen vaak zelf. (That's a long time, people used to do such jobs themselves often.)
6. Mieke: Ja, nu bellen we meteen een installateur of technicus voor alles. (Yes, now we immediately call an installer or technician for everything.)
7. Geert: Onlangs zocht ik ook een stukadoor voor de muur, dat kan ik zelf niet. (Recently I also looked for a plasterer for the wall, I can't do that myself.)
8. Mieke: Ik zou het zelf ook niet kunnen, maar ik probeer soms zelf iets te doen vanwege de lange wachttijd. (I wouldn't be able to do it myself either, but I sometimes try to do something myself because of the long waiting time.)
9. Geert: We hebben vakmensen nodig, meer dan we denken. (We need skilled workers, more than we think.)
10. Mieke: Absoluut, zonder hen krijgen we niet eens een deur gemaakt. (Absolutely, without them we can't even get a door made.)
11. Geert: En wie bezorgt onze post? De communicatieadviseur? (And who delivers our mail? The communications advisor?)
12. Mieke: De bakker, de postbode en alle vakmensen verdienen ons respect! (The baker, the postman and all skilled workers deserve our respect!)
