Cuando una mujer se queda embarazada, es importante hacer varios controles de salud durante el embarazo. Las ecografías principales suelen hacerse en la semana doce y en la semana veinte; a veces se añade otra al final del embarazo. La matrona realiza el seguimiento y organiza pruebas como las analíticas de sangre. Esto ayuda a detectar problemas, por ejemplo la diabetes gestacional mediante la curva de azúcar.

Cuando te quedas embarazada, debes hacer algunos controles médicos importantes. (When you get pregnant, you must have some important medical check-ups.)
Al principio, te harán una ecografía en la semana doce y otra en la semana veinte, que son las más importantes. (At the beginning, they will do an ultrasound in week twelve and another in week twenty, which are the most important.)
A veces se hace una tercera ecografía entre las semanas treinta y cuatro y treinta y seis. (Sometimes a third ultrasound is done between weeks thirty-four and thirty-six.)
Durante el embarazo, verás a tu matrona, que te ayudará con pruebas y hará un seguimiento para comprobar si hay problemas. (During pregnancy, you will see your midwife, who will help you with tests and will do follow-up to check if there are any problems.)
También tendrás tres analíticas de sangre para controlar tu salud y ver si necesitas alguna prueba especial, como la curva de azúcar si sospechan que puedes tener diabetes gestacional. (You will also have three blood tests to monitor your health and see if you need any special test, such as the glucose test if they suspect you might have gestational diabetes.)
Al final, en las semanas treinta y cinco o treinta y siete, se realiza un frotis vaginal para comprobar si hay alguna bacteria. (At the end, in weeks thirty-five or thirty-seven, a vaginal swab is done to check if there is any bacteria.)
