Since 08:30 this morning centrifuge C-3 has been out of service. A fault report has been submitted to the supplier. Until the engineer has attended, we will use centrifuge C-1 in room 2.12. To avoid delays, departments may deliver a maximum of one rack at a time. Attach a clear sample label to each tube and check that the patient details are correct.

Follow the ‘Separate serum’ protocol on the intranet. Always wear a lab coat and safety glasses. Only dilute samples if this is specified in the protocol and record any dilution in the logbook. If you suspect contamination: stop the process and set the sample aside for further inspection. After centrifugation, results must be checked by a second staff member before they are entered into the system. Questions or problems? Report them to the analyst on duty.

Hi,

Can you help think this through regarding a fault report? In room B‑2 the centrifuge stops after about two minutes. We followed the protocol and checked the rotor, but the problem persists. The samples from Chemistry (with sample labels) need to be analyzed before 16:00; otherwise we'll face delays.

  • Can you check the last run in the logbook?
  • And see whether the machine needs to be recalibrated?

Let me know what you can take on and whether we should abort the procedure.

Ik heb het logboek net bekeken. De foutmelding verschijnt sinds vanochtend telkens na ongeveer twee minuten. Ik kan om 13:30 naar kamer B-2 komen om de centrifuge te controleren en te kijken of kalibratie nodig is. Als het probleem dan nog steeds optreedt, stel ik voor dat we de run afbreken en de monsters tijdelijk overzetten naar de reservecentrifuge, zodat Chemie de analyses vóór 16:00 kan afronden.

Kun jij intussen Chemie informeren dat we ermee bezig zijn en dat de uitslagen mogelijk later komen?

I just checked the logbook. The error message has been appearing since this morning, always after about two minutes. I can come to room B‑2 at 1:30 PM to inspect the centrifuge and determine whether recalibration is needed. If the problem still occurs then, I suggest we abort the run and temporarily move the samples to the backup centrifuge so Chemistry can finish the analyses before 4:00 PM.

Could you meanwhile inform Chemistry that we are working on it and that the results may be delayed?
