(Review: a film night that stays with you)

Vorige week ben ik met collega’s naar een in een filmhuis gegaan. De film is door een jonge Nederlandse regisseur en speelt in Rotterdam. De verhuist na een scheiding terug naar zijn oude wijk en probeert contact te herstellen met zijn dochter. Het is rustig, maar er gebeurt genoeg om nieuwsgierig te blijven.

De speelt geloofwaardig en sommige scènes zijn echt . De spanning zit vooral in kleine keuzes, niet in actie. Na afloop heb ik de nog eens bekeken en de film aan mijn vrienden aangeraden. Voor wie van drama houdt, is dit een sterke film om samen te zien.
Last week I went with colleagues to a preview screening at an arthouse cinema. The film is directed by a young Dutch director and is set in Rotterdam. The main character moves back to his old neighborhood after a divorce and tries to rebuild contact with his daughter. The plot is calm, but enough happens to keep you curious.

The cast acts convincingly and some scenes are truly moving. The tension is mainly in small choices, not in action. Afterwards I watched the trailer again and recommended the film to my friends. For those who like drama, this is a strong film to watch together.

Gisteren ging ik met twee collega’s naar de première van een Nederlandse film. Ik had van tevoren de trailer gezien en verwachtte een rustige komedie, maar het bleek een spannende film te zijn. Het plot draait om een jonge advocaat die plotseling wordt bedreigd en de spanning bouwt langzaam op. De regisseur heeft goed geregisseerd en de cast speelt overtuigend, vooral de hoofdpersoon. Er is ook een bijrol die ik erg ontroerend vond. Ik ga een korte recensie schrijven en ik kan de film aanraden. Volgende week wil ik weer gaan, dus vanavond ga ik kaartjes reserveren en een afspraak maken.
(Yesterday I went with two colleagues to the premiere of a Dutch film. I had seen the trailer beforehand and expected a calm comedy, but it turned out to be a thrilling film. The plot revolves around a young lawyer who is suddenly threatened, and the tension builds slowly. The director has directed well and the cast acts convincingly, especially the main character. What did you think of the film yesterday? I found the plot surprising, but the beginning was a bit slow. The main character acted really strongly and I was sometimes quite moved. We stayed a little while afterward because I wanted to let the ending sink in.

Shall we go again this weekend? I saw a fun trailer for a thriller. We can reserve tickets in advance. Which day suits you?

Hoi Noor,

Ik vond de film ook goed. Het plot was inderdaad verrassend, vooral het moment dat de hoofdpersoon ineens van plan veranderde. Het begin vond ik ook wat traag, maar daarna kwam er meer spanning. Ik werd ook ontroerd door het einde en de muziek.

Dit weekend kan ik op zaterdagavond het beste. Zullen we naar die thriller van 20:00 gaan? Als je het goed vindt, reserveer ik de kaartjes online. Welke bioscoop heeft jouw voorkeur?

I also thought the film was good. The plot was indeed surprising, especially the moment the main character suddenly changed their mind. I also thought the beginning was a bit slow, but then there was more suspense. I was also moved by the ending and the music.

This weekend, Saturday evening works best for me. Shall we go to that thriller at 20:00? If you're okay with it, I'll reserve the tickets online. Which cinema do you prefer?
