Misschien ga je voor de allereerste keer naar het theater en heb je geen idee wat je te wachten staat. (Maybe you’re going to the theater for the very first time and you have no idea what to expect.)
Het belangrijkste is dat je op tijd bent, want de voorstelling begint ook als jij er nog niet bent. (The most important thing is that you are on time, because the performance starts even if you are not there yet.)
Het is vervelend voor het publiek en voor de acteurs op het podium als je te laat binnenkomt. (It is annoying for the audience and for the actors on stage if you come in late.)
Zorg dat je van tevoren goed hebt gegeten; eten in de zaal is namelijk niet de bedoeling. (Make sure you have eaten well beforehand; eating in the auditorium is not the intention.)
Bij de theaterkassa kun je kaartjes afhalen, maar je kunt ze ook vooraf bestellen via de mail. (At the theater box office you can pick up tickets, but you can also order them in advance by email.)
In de garderobe laat je je jas en tas achter, zodat je veel comfortabeler in je theaterstoel zit. (In the cloakroom you leave your coat and bag, so that you sit much more comfortably in your theater seat.)
Bewaar het nummertje van de garderobe goed, zodat je na afloop je spullen weer kunt ophalen. (Keep the cloakroom ticket safe, so that you can pick up your belongings again afterwards.)
Voor de voorstelling kun je bij de bar een drankje kopen, maar je mag dit drankje niet meenemen de zaal in. (Before the performance you can buy a drink at the bar, but you are not allowed to take this drink into the auditorium.)
Ga voor aanvang nog even naar het toilet, zodat je halverwege de voorstelling niet de zaal hoeft te verlaten. (Go to the toilet just before it starts, so that you don’t have to leave the auditorium halfway through the performance.)
Zet je telefoon (en die van je gezinsleden) helemaal uit voordat de voorstelling echt begint. Praat tijdens de show niet met je buren, want dat leidt de acteurs en het publiek af. Geniet van de voorstelling en bewaar je enthousiasme voor het grote slotapplaus aan het einde. (Turn your phone (and those of your family members) completely off before the performance really starts. Don’t talk to your neighbors during the show, because that distracts the actors and the audience. Enjoy the performance and save your enthusiasm for the big final applause at the end.)

URL: Opera Ballet

De Nationale Opera & Ballet in Amsterdam heeft een groot programma met opera en ballet. In mei 2026 zijn er voorstellingen zoals Le nozze di Figaro (8-28 mei) en GRIMM (8 mei - 24 juni). Er zijn ook speciale avonden, bijvoorbeeld Flirt XL (18 mei), en kleinere voorstellingen in Studio Boekman.

Bij elke voorstelling staan de speeldata en via Tickets & info kun je de prijzen zien. Vaak begint de voorstelling ’s avonds en is het verstandig op tijd te komen, want soms sta je even in de rij voordat het publiek naar binnen mag. Sommige voorstellingen vinden plaats in de Grote Zaal.
