(Emergency Department: what do you take with you and when do you call 112?)

Bij de Spoedeisende Hulpbeoordeelt het personeel eerst hoe dringend het is. Neem altijd je identiteitsbewijs en, als je die hebt, een overzicht van je mee. At the Emergency Department (ED), the staff first assesses how urgent the emergency is. Always take your ID and, if you have one, an overview of your medication with you. Call 112 in case of an allergic reaction, fainting, or severe chest pain; an ambulance can then come. With a deep wound, a suspected fracture, or a burn, you can usually go to the ED yourself. Also report all symptoms and previous injuries, so that your medical record is correct.

Hoi Marieke,

Dank voor je bericht. Gisteravond ben ik naar de spoedpost gegaan omdat ik me had gesneden aan een kapot glas en me daarna duizelig voelde. Volgens de arts is er gelukkig niets gebroken, maar ik heb wel een diepe wonde aan mijn hand. De wond is schoongemaakt en gehecht; ik heb ook een prik tegen tetanus gekregen.

Morgen kan ik waarschijnlijk komen, maar ik prefereer geen taken waarbij ik veel moet tillen of langdurig moet typen. Kun je mijn afspraken in de namiddag verplaatsen naar donderdag? Ik stuur meteen een korte overdracht van de lopende dossiers zodat iemand ze tijdelijk kan overnemen.

Hi Marieke,

Thank you for your message. Last night I went to urgent care because I cut myself on a broken glass and then felt dizzy. According to the doctor, fortunately nothing is broken, but I do have a deep wound on my hand. The wound was cleaned and stitched; I also got a tetanus shot.

I can probably come in tomorrow, but I would prefer not to do tasks that involve a lot of lifting or prolonged typing. Could you move my afternoon appointments to Thursday? I will immediately send a brief handover of the ongoing files so someone can take them over temporarily.
